Cluster analysis by the K1/k2 signature reveals a novel subtype of HCC metabolically similar to ICC. a 2-way hierarchically clustered heatmap of K1/k2 signature in the 50-sample discovery data set. This analysis identified two distinct expression phenotypes Γ(−) and Γ(+) where Γ(−) included samples where \( {\omega}_{mRNA}^{K_1/{k}_2} \) was down-regulated on the samples in Γ(−) relative to the remaining samples in Γ(+). The Γ(−) class contained all 6 ICC samples plus 7 HCC and 2 sarcomas while Γ(+) contained all 20 normal samples along with 15 HCC. b Plot of the dominant eigen-signal of the matrix for the \( {\omega}_{mRNA}^{K_1/{k}_2} \) signature clearly separates the samples in Γ(−) and Γ(+) based on a threshold set at zero
