(B) the normalized cross correlation output, NCC, detects spots as well as background noise. (C) Point-wise multi-scale correlation measurement, MSC, suppresses background noise but emphasizes brighter spots such that weaker spots may fall below the detection threshold. For purposes of presentation in this figure, images in A and C have been adjusted for brightness and contrast.
